About our puppies
Our puppies are raised in our home with lots of love and praise. We do not raise our puppies in
kennels or crates. Our puppies have their own area that is 6 feet wide by 5 feet deep and is located between
our family room and our kitchen where they can see us and visit with our other dogs. They have their bed, toys
and food and water. They spend a lot of time with us and with our other dogs. When the weather is nice we
take them out 3-4 times a day where they can explore and get use to every day noises. They spend very little
time in their puppy room.
Our puppies are not taken away from their moms at the age of 4-5 weeks, we have found that letting
our moms wean them on her own make them better adjusted and it make it less stressful on both our moms
and our puppies. We do start giving them moistened dry food at about 5 weeks and they are on dry by the
time their mom has fully weaned them by 8 weeks of age.
Since we let our moms wean her puppies herself we do not give them their first DHPP vaccine until
8 weeks old, since they are still getting their immunities from their moms up until then. Our puppies
depending on their size are normally ready for their forever homes by 10 weeks old. Their second DHPP is
Given at 12 weeks and we recommend giving nasal Bordatella (Kennel cough) at that time as well. Nasal
Bordatella enters their system a lot quicker than the injectable. Even if you are not planning to board you
puppy but are planning to go to the dog park, Pet Co, Petsmart or groomed. Bordetella is an air borne virus.
Please keep in mind when you are picking out a new toy for your puppy, that other dogs may have sniffed or
even chewed on it. So please remember that not all dog owners vaccinate their pets. We also recommend
starting them on their heartworm preventative.
All our pups are used to being groomed and having their nails trimmed with a dremel. We find that using
a dremel tool it is less likely to cut their nails to short and have them bleed. Please remember that once a
puppy has had their nails cut down to far they do not forget. It is just a personal preference of ours. We start
getting our pups used to grooming at about 3 weeks. We found the younger they start the easier it is for their
new forever families to continue. We groom them at least once a day and are given a lot of praise as we are
combing them and messing with their feet, ears and teeth and lots of praise after we have finished.
Our pups have started their potty training at about 6 weeks and will learn to use the doggie door, so
they are at least 70 - 80% potty trained by the time they go to their forever homes, some are even more, but
please remember they are still babies and will still have an accident or two. Please remember that rubbing
their noses in it or yelling at them is not going to help them remember that they are to go outside of on
paper if you are paper training them. Please remember they has very small bladders and it is up to you to take
them outside after they eat or drink and really get excited and praise them you can even give a treat. We do
not train our poms with treats it is a lot easier on them if give them a lot of praise and love, this way they
will do what they are asked to do be because they want to please us and not just for a food reward but this
is our personal preference. Do to the fact that the events we have our Poms in food in not allowed in the ring,
if you are caught with treats even in your pocket to give after their trial, you will be disqualified if the
judge or stewarts see you give them a treat from your pocket. We work to hard to take the chance.
